This exhibition consists of a series of nocturnes set on the grounds of a country estate and its environs. Colin photographed the grounds at night when few or no people would visit. With this knowledge it makes the viewing of these paintings a more solitary experience and through representational uncertainty and cryptic narrative, Martin sets out to reveal the mysterious nature of a private, protected space. Colin Martin has had a close relationship with the RHA by exhibiting his paintings in past RHA Annual Exhibitions. In 2005 he was awarded the prestigious Hennessy Craig Scholarship. |
